Font Formatting in Microsoft Word 2003
Fonts
Font is the typeface used to display characters. Font sets the font family (or series of families) for the style. Browsers display text in the first font in the series that is installed on the user’s system. For compatibility with Internet Explorer 3.0, list a Windows font first. The font attribute is supported by both browsers.
Font Style refers to the appearance of the font characters. It can be applied as regular, italic, bold, or bold italic.
Font Size refers to the size of the characters expressed in points.
Font color is the color applied to the text characters.
Underline Styles are options that alloy you to apply a variety of underlines beneath the characters.
Underline color is the color of the applied underline.
Font Effects formatting refers to special effects that change the appearance of characters. These options include strikethrough, double strikethrough, superscript, subscript, shadow, outline, emboss, engrave, small caps, all caps or hidden.
Font Scale determines the horizontal size of font characters. Scale is specified as a percentage of the normal character width. It is set by specifying a percentage of the original size of the character.

Characters at 150% Scale
Characters at 100% Scale
Characters at 75% Scale
Font Spacing determines the amount of space between each character of text. Spacing can be normal or it can be expanded and condensed by the number of points you specify.
Font Position determines whether text appears above or below the baseline. The position can be normal or can be raised or lowered by the number of point you specify.
Kerning determines how certain combinations of letters fit together.
Animations are special animated effects that alter the appearance of font characters when viewed on screen. Text effects include animations such as Las Vegas Lights, Marching Black Ants, Marching Red Ants, Shimmer, Sparkle Text, and more.
