Introduction to RSS Tutorial: Item Elements
RSS <item> Elements
This section of the RSS Tutorial will review the role of item elements in the RSS feed. At the heart of RSS files are "items". Each <item> element provides information about a specific article, story, web page, or podcast in the RSS feed. It must include three sub-elements which are the <title>, <link> and the <description>. In addition to these required sub-elements, the <item> element can also include optional elements.
The more common optional elements of the "item" include:
The <author> Element
The <author> sub-element is used to provide the e-mail address of the author of the item.
The <comments> Element
The <comments> element allows you to link the item to comments about that item. These comments are usually located at web site that is specified in a URL in the <comments> element. For GuidesandTutorials, it might look something like this:
