Introduction to RSS Tutorial: Channel Elements
This section of the RSS Tutorial will explain the components of channel elements. The <channel> element usually contains one or more <item> elements. Each new article to your blog or web site, or new podcast should have its own <item> in your RSS feed. As discussed, earlier, <channel> elements must include a <title>, <link>, and <description> elements, but it can also include additional optional elements. |

The <category> Element
The <category> element helps to categorize your feed. It enables RSS aggregators to group sites based on their category.
The <copyright> Element
The <copyright> element notifies about copyrighted materials in your web site, blog, or podcast. For GuidesandTutorials, it may look something like this:

Channel Elements also allow you to include an image for aggregators to display when they present a feed.
The <image> element has three required sub-elements.
- <url> - which defines the URL address for the GIF, JPEG, or PNG image
- <title> - which defines the text to display if the image is not available or could not be shown
- <link> - which defines the hyperlink to the website that is providing the channel
The image for the GuidesandTutorials RSS feed might look like this:

Another optional element of the <channel> is the <language> element.
The <language> element is used to specify the language used to write your document of record your podcast. This element makes it possible for RSS aggregators to group sites based on language.
