Draw an Ellipse in PowerPoint

This PowerPoint tutorial will demonstrate how to draw an ellipse or a circle with the ellipse tool on the Drawing toolbar.

To emphasize important points in your presentation, you might want to include shapes in addition to text. The Shapes you draw in PowerPoint are objects that can be sized, moved, copied, and formatted in a variety of ways to suit your needs.

PowerPoint provides several tools for creating several types of shapes including arrows, banners, stars, rounded rectangles, circles, squares, and more. Shapes can be worked with individually or they can be grouped and treated as one shape.

Drawing an Ellipse

In Normal or Normal Page view, choose Ellipse from the Drawing toolbar

On the slide, click and drag to define the ellipse. If you want a perfect circle, hold down the Shift key and drag.

You can also select the Ellipse tool from the tool bar and then simply click on your slide. PowerPoint will insert a small ellipse that you can resize.

Holding the Shift key down while dragging will result in a circle.
