Dreamweaver comes with 17 preset design schemes for tables, which apply fonts, cell borders and background colors to make the table data more attractive and more readable. These formats are similar to how you might format a spreadsheet or a table in MS Word so that you can easily track the data in rows across the page or columns down the page. Using contrasting colors in rows and columns can often make tables more readable, which is the purpose of the Dreamweaver preset formats. You can also format a table by using a CSS style sheet. |
Use the Format Table command to quickly apply a preset design scheme for row colors to a table. You can then select options to further customize the design.
Dreamweaver Tutorial: Preset Table Design
To apply a preset table format, place the insertion point inside the table you want to format. Choose Commands > Format Table.
The Format Table Dialog box appears. From the scrolling list you can choose a format to apply to the table. A sample of the forma appears next to the list. If you find one you like, click OK to apply the format to the selected table.

You can also customize the various formatting options as desired. To modify row colors, choose first and second rows by clicking in the color wells to bring up the color palette. Then choose how you want the rows to alternate colors by choosing from the Alternate pop-up menu.
You can set special formatting for the top row to make it stand out from the rest of the table. Choose how you want to align the top row text by picking from the Align pop-up menu. You can also specify the background color of the table of the color of the text in the top row.
You can also format the text in the left column. Choose text alignment from the Align pop-up menu and then choose the text style.
Click Apply or OK to format your table with the selected design.
Here is the table with a pre-set design applied.
